NYPD “Hate Crimes” Unit Investigates Bacon Incident; Family Research Council Shooter Not Charged With Hate Crime

I’m with most conservatives on the opinion that “hate crime” is a foolish designation and that we should simply enforce crimes as they are, regardless of whatever “hate” we might impute to a criminal’s motives. However, if you want to see how ridiculously subjective this law is enforced, you don’t have to go far.

The NYPD is taking very seriously the presence of bacon at a Muslim celebration of Ramadan in Staten Island. As reported in the Gothamist:

Early Sunday morning, organizers of an outdoor end-of-Ramadan ceremony in New Dorp Beach found strips of raw bacon on the field where Muslims were gathering. (The Koran prohibits Muslims from eating pork products.) “This has been determined to be a bias event on the part of our Hate Crimes Task Force,” NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly told reporters yesterday. “On a website associated with this celebration was some derogatory comments and at the site itself, three packages of raw bacon were found.”

Now contrast this with the leftist liberal who tried to murder employees of the Family Research Council, reportedly because of their conservative Christian beliefs.

From Twitchy:

A grand jury charged Corkin with assault with intent to kill while armed and possession of a handgun during a crime of violence, along with a federal charge of interstate transportation of a firearm and ammunition. Corkin, who reportedly told the security guard “I don’t like your politics” before opening fire, was not charged with a hate crime.

At a press conference the day after the shooting, FRC President Tony Perkins said his organization does not support the “hate crime” label and said Corkin should not be charged with a hate crime.

So leaving bacon is a “bias event” but trying to murder someone over their political and religious beliefs isn’t?

You think the authorities and the media just might be biased against Christians and overly sensitive to Muslims? Just a tad?
